NASCAR insider reveals new details about third RFK Racing driver in 2025

After building RFK Racing into a formidable contender, Brad Keselowski and company are looking to expand to three cars, with a new charter joining the owner-driver and Chris Buescher each Sunday.

The team has been wildly successful, with Keselowski returning to Victory Lane and making the playoffs, and Buescher becoming one of the brightest young stars in the Cup Series. As part of his latest 2025 NASCAR lineup projections , FOX’s Bob Pockrass predicted the future, believing Ryan Preece would be the favorite to land RFK Racing’s third car.

“RFK Racing is expected to get the Kroger sponsorship for 2025 (which could go across more than one car) and run a third full-time car with Ryan Preece the heavy favorite,” Pockrass relayed . “Brad Keselowski has repeatedly said he would need about a month before announcing anything. The team possibly could lease a charter from Rick Ware Racing.

“Kroger has previously been a sponsor of Chris Buescher and Preece, and had good relationships with both when they drove for JTG Daugherty Racing.”

Evidently, the Kroger sponsorship would change everything for RFK Racing, giving Keselowski’s team the ability to land a third wheelman like Preece, who has the talent, but he may not bring the sponsorship like some teams would like. Perhaps he could have a Buescher-like resurgence under the RFK banner.

Moreover, Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic also shed some light on why the sponsorship would open new doors for RFK, and why the Ford team was their choice after ending their partnership with JTG Daugherty Racing.

“Kroger, one of the biggest supermarket chains in the United States, is considered one of the biggest sponsors within NASCAR to the extent that for four years it funded two full-time teams at JTG Daugherty Racing,” Bianchi wrote. “That stint included serving as primary sponsor for two years with Buescher and three years with Preece when each drove for the team.

“Kroger and JTG are separating after a sponsorship partnership that dates back to 2010. The pending dissolution of the deal at the end of this year has made Kroger one of the more sought-after sponsors with several teams trying to solicit its backing. That RFK is likely securing Kroger is a big win for the company.”

Alas, Ryan Preece will be under major pressure to perform with RFK Racing now, if the deal does come to fruition, like many believe. Time will tell, but the soon-to-be-former Stewart-Haas Racing wheelman would be a nice get for Brad Keselowski and RFK Racing.

They can do much better than Preece unless he's bringing a truckload of money. Weakest driver Stewart Haas had.
