Penn State wrestling to hold two Bryce Jordan Center duals this season; who could the Lions face?

Penn State wrestling will hold two matches in the Bryce Jordan Center during the 2024-2025 season. It marks the first time that will be the case in program history. The No. 1 Nittany Lions typically hold one dual a year inside the home of the men’s and women’s basketball teams. However, head coach Cael Sanderson has suggested in the past that adding a second would be something the team would consider. It has done exactly that, per a program tweet on Saturday morning that reads as follows:

“SEASON TICKET HOLDER ALERT! Hey season ticket holders, watch your emails starting Monday! Renewal information is coming soon and we have 7 home dates, including 2 in the BJC!”

Speaking of the potential for two BJC duals in 2022, Sanderson said:

“That’s something that we look forward to every year. Each year it becomes and feels more like a home environment, and it’s something we should probably think about, as a program, having more matches over there.

“[Wrestling at the Bryce Jordan Center] gives new opportunities for fans to see the team, and we want to continue to build our fan base. And it’s hard to do that if people can’t get in to watch your matches. We want to make sure we have a big match over there and let as many people fit in there to come watch a match, and hopefully, from there you can hook them and make them wrestling fans and Penn State wrestling fans.”

Who could Penn State face at the BJC?

Last year’s BJC dual meet was questioned by fans and media alike. The Nittany Lions chose to host Rutgers there on a Monday night. The Scarlet Knights are an extremely solid program but were not the best team on the Penn State schedule. And, making it to State College for a Monday night dual meet is challenging for many fans, which is why the school previously held it there on weekends. What will they do this year?

As noted in the Penn State tweet, the schedule is not out yet. However, we know this much: Penn State will host Iowa , Michigan , Michigan State , and Maryland during the Big Ten portion of the dual meet schedule. The Hawkeye match being at the BJC feels like a guarantee. During the non-conference portion of the schedule, the Lions so far are locked in to face Drexel at home on Nov. 17, Wyoming on Dec. 15, and American on Feb. 21. That leaves one more home non-conference opponent to be revealed. It’s hard to project who the second BJC match will feature without knowing who that foe is. But, if we know Sanderson, Pat Kraft, and co., it will likely be a big-time opponent worthy of a venue bigger than Rec Hall. And, if not, then the Wolverines will probably join the Hawkeyes in wrestling Penn State at the BJC during Big Ten action this winter.

As noted above, it will still be another few weeks until the full 2024-2025 Penn State wrestling schedule comes out. But, here’s what we know so far:

Nov. 16: NWCA All-Star Classic/Army Black Knight Invitational

    Nov. 17: vs. Drexel

Dec. 8: at Lehigh, 2 p.m. (PPL Center in Allentown)

    Dec. 15: vs. Wyoming

Dec. 21-22: Collegiate Wrestling Duals (Nashville, Tenn.)

    Feb. 21: vs. American

There will be eight Big Ten matches, as well. Four are at home and four are on the road. The dates and times for those are not yet out. But, the opponent list is:

Penn State wrestling home Big Ten matches: Iowa , Michigan , Michigan State , Maryland

Nittany Lion wrestling road Big Ten matches: Nebraska , Illinois , Ohio State , Rutgers
