The latest college football rankings from ESPN are here after the network updated its FPI Top 25 following Week 5 of the season.

We had some exciting games Saturday, particularly down in Tuscaloosa, and some significant movement in the rankings. The top 10 teams had to shift a bit in addition to a love of movement in the latter half.

Let’s dive into ESPN’s new FPI rankings following Week 4 of action.

    1. Texas

Texas mostly cruised with a 35-13 win over Mississippi State, led by Arch Manning at QB once again. This is still the top team in the FPI.

Now, it’s onto a bye week for the Longhorns. There, they’ll have two weeks to rest and prepare for Oklahoma and Red River. That very well could include the return of Quinn Ewers.

    2. Alabama

Man, what a game and don’t think we won’t talk about it for a while. ESPN actually had the Crimson Tide at No. 2 last week and Georgia at No. 4, the opposite of the AP Poll.

It sounds like the FPI was right, considering the Crimson Tide won 41-34. Nearly blowing a 28-0 lead, Alabama had the last laugh with 17-year-old Ryan Williams scoring on a 75-yard touchdown.

    3. Ohio State

Ohio State kept the train rolling and remained in the top three of the FPI this week. The 38-7 win over Michigan State opened up Big Ten play.

Jeremiah Smith reeled in five catches for 83 yards and a score, and actually had one on the ground too! Will Howard threw for 244 yards and the team ran for 185 total. A balanced effort. Denzel Burke reeled in an interception for a total team effort.

    4. Georgia

This would’ve stunned the college football world, had Georgia won. Not stunned because of the result, but because of the comeback.

Trailing 28-0, Georgia took a 34-33 lead late in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Ryan Williams happened and Georgia stood pat in the FPI this week. Rematch in the College Football Playoff? SEC Championship?

    5. Tennessee

A week off did the Volunteers some good, who are 4-0 on the season. Next up is a trip to Arkansas next week, but without a game, no movement in the FPI.

Nico Iamaleava has 892 passing yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. Completing 69.3% of his passes, he’s been impressive. Don’t overlook running back Dylan Sampson though: 69 carries, 449 yards and 10 touchdowns.

    6. Ole Miss

Here’s the surprise of the top 10: Ole Miss didn’t move despite being upset by Kentucky Saturday. At home no less!

While Kentucky received a massive bump in the FPI, the Rebels stood pat after a 20-17 loss. Jaxson Dart looked human with 261 yards and just one touchdown. Henry Parrish Jr. was limited to 62 yards and a score on the ground. Tre Harris was great though: 11 catches 176 yards and the lone score. But man, this was a stunner.

    7. Notre Dame (+2)

Notre Dame climbed the FPI this week following an AP Poll ranked win over Louisville. The teams were neck and neck in those rankings.

Riley Leonard opened up more with 163 passing yards, two touchdowns, 52 rushing yards and a score on the ground. The 31-24 win was nice, but if they can include Jeremiyah Love as a focal point of the offense, rather than 34 yards on the ground, this team will be really dangerous.

    8. Penn State

Penn State had to battle this weekend, beating Illinois 21-7 at home. The Nittany Lions didn’t shift in the FPI rankings though.

The run game was great as Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton combined for 196 yards and two touchdowns. After a first quarter that left them tied 7-7, Penn State controlled the second half.

    9. Oregon (+1)

The last two games saw a return to form for Oregon. Saturday? A 34-13 win over old and new Big Ten foe UCLA was just what the doctor ordered.

The FPI bumped them up a spot as Dillon Gabriel fired three touchdowns in the win. The Ducks are 4-0 going into a Friday night affair against Michigan State in Week 6.

    10. Miami (-3)

There was controversy at the end of Miami’s 38-34 win over Virginia Tech. While it was a thriller, it looked like Kyron Drones threw a Hail Mary touchdown for the win and upset.

But after a review, there was no clear control and the receiver appeared to be out of bounds, overturning the call. Miami won and improved to 5-0, but dropped in this week’s FPI.

ESPN FPI Top 25 rankings after Week 5

    11. USC (+1)
    12. Louisville (-1)
    13. Clemson (+1)
    14. Missouri (-1)
    15. LSU (+4)
    16. Indiana (-1)
    17. Oklahoma
    18. Texas A&M
    19. SMU (+7)
    20. Kansas State (+12)
    21. Boise State (+6)
    22. Iowa State (+3)
    23. Kentucky (+15)
    24. Iowa

As you can see, there was a lot of movement in the back half of the top 25 FPI teams. Heck, look at the big jumps from Kansas State and Kentucky. Onto Week 6!

Ole Miss loses and doesn't drop. Typical SEC bias.
