Will Sheppard spent four seasons at Vanderbilt before transferring to Colorado ahead of the 2024 campaign. After Colorado’s 48-21 win over UCF on Saturday, the fifth-year wide receiver took a jab at his former program.

“If y’all know where I came from, Vanderbilt, that’s the most complete win I’ve had in my career,” Sheppard said.

In Sheppard’s four seasons with the Commodores, they posted a combined 9-36 overall record and 2-31 mark in conference play. In comparison, Colorado is off to a hot start this season, sitting with a 4-1 record and two wins against Big 12 foes.

In Colorado’s win on Saturday, Sheppard hauled in four catches for a season-high 99 yards and a touchdown. He boasts 17 receptions for 247 yards and a score this season. His 247 yards are the fourth-most on the team, trailing Travis Hunter , Jimmy Horn Jr. and LaJohntay Wester .

Although Vanderbilt never found success while Sheppard was with the program, it’s taken a significant step forward this season. The Commodores kicked off the year with a stunning 34-27 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies , who many believed could contend for an appearance in the ACC Championship.

Vanderbilt followed up the stellar showing with a dominant 55-0 win over Alcorn State . The Commodores took a step back in Week 3, suffering an unexpected loss to Georgia State but nearly upset No. 7 Missouri in Week 4, ultimately falling short in overtime.

Despite Vanderbilt’s improved performance this season, Sheppard seems happy at Colorado. After suffering a slow start to the season, Sheppard’s explosive performance against UCF was an affirming moment.

“I tried not to get too down on myself at the end,” Sheppard said after the game. “I just know who I am and why I’m here and why I came here.

“And I think (Saturday) proved that and showed that. And (Sheduer Sanders) having that confidence and the confidence to keep coming and keep throwing the ball to me and taking those chances, knowing that I’m going to come down with it in (moments) like this — it’s just a little more confidence in me.”
