There are changes all over the Indiana On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list as of Sept. 30, as 18 teams switched places. That number includes 11 teams that improved their ranking, including one that jumped seven spots. Meanwhile, only two of the Indiana high school football teams ranked from 11 to 25 stayed in their current position.
The On3 Massey Ratings , officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. According to the model, three teams from Indiana rank in the top 100 nationwide.

The Bulldogs stood their ground against some of Indiana’s top football teams. After a one-point victory over eighth-ranked Fishers, they outclassed second-ranked Westfield by four points. While it was a low-scoring affair, the credit goes to Brownsburg’s third-ranked defense for completing the necessary stops to secure the victory. However, despite their success, Brownsburg cannot take 12 th -ranked Zionsville lightly during their Oct. 4 encounter.
The Shamrocks suffered their first loss of the 2024 Indiana high school football season against Brownsburg. However, Westfield’s defense still deserves credit after limiting the Bulldogs to 17 points. That unit helped them survive the challenge Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern presented in their previous games. Westfield will try to return to the winning track when they face Avon on Oct. 4.
The Trojans are on a five-game winning streak following their conquest of Lawrence Central. Gabe McWilliams threw for three touchdowns, while Brevin Holubar had 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Tristan Baxter and Drake McClurg added 169 receiving yards in their victory. After six games, the Trojans have the second-best offense in Indiana, averaging 29.5 points per game. They will need that firepower to defeat sixth-ranked Cathedral on Oct. 4 in a matchup that Massey Ratings predicted Center Grove will lose.
After surrendering 21 points to Ben Davis, the Warriors allowed Pike to score only seven. Limiting the Red Devils to single digits makes the Warren Central defense the best in Indiana high school football. If the Warriors can maintain the 4.6 points allowed in their next match, fifth-ranked Lawrence North will be in trouble.
The Wildcats must have disliked Massey Ratings’ prediction that they would lose to Ben Davis. Instead, they flipped the script and won by 30. Lawrence North scored 58 points in that game, their second-highest total this season. Tanner Aspeslet largely contributed to the team’s success, tallying four passing touchdowns and a rushing score. Meanwhile, Izayveon Moore led the ground attack with 180 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Wildcats will put their undefeated record on the line against top-ten teams in their next two games: Warren Central on the 4 th and Center Grove on the 11 th .
While the Fighting Irish slid in the Indiana high school football top 25 rankings, they are on the right track after a 53-13 victory over North Central. Xavier Dangerfield was the leading man for Cathedral, finishing with 188 rushing yards and five touchdowns. The Fighting Irish’s third-ranked offense and fourth-ranked defense will be tested against Center Grove on Friday.
The Royals ended their two-game losing streak by defeating 12th-ranked Zionsville 25-14. Placekicker Alex Jenkins poured in 13 points for Hamilton Southeastern, while Carter Reed and Kendrick Pennybaker had a touchdown each. However, it’s concerning that they’ve finished with their second-fewest points of the season with that loss. Therefore, they must upgrade their effort on that side of the ball against Noblesville on Oct. 4.
The Tigers could have been undefeated if they didn’t come up short against Pike and top-ranked Brownsburg. Fishers could have stolen a win from both teams but came up short. Being competitive against two ranked teams, plus their victory over Avon, makes them deserving of their top-ten rankings. Fishers can build more momentum for the home stretch if they defeat Franklin Central on Oct. 4.
While Crown Point dropped one spot, they remain undefeated after six games. Their latest result was a 41-7 road win over Valparaiso, whose opponent’s points came in the fourth quarter. After surrendering double-digit points in their three previous games, limiting the Vikings to one touchdown reestablishes their defensive tenacity. That confidence can carry them to victories against Laporte, Chesterton Senior, and Michigan City in their succeeding matches.
The Dragons burned Greenfield-Central with 38 unanswered points during their Sept. 28 match. Josh Ranes trampled over the Cougars’ defense, finishing with 183 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Dragons’ defense tallied eight tackles for losses, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries. New Palestine will need that level of team effort to maintain their unbeaten record after their Oct. 4 showdown with Shelbyville.
