Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown to redshirt, forgo remainder of 2024 season

Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown announced his decision to redshirt on Monday via his Instagram account . Deciding to no longer play for the Hawkeyes program for the remainder of 2024 on his 21st birthday following the team’s 35-7 loss to Ohio State .

Brown’s decision comes in the midst of his second season with Iowa and could likely be followed by eventually entering the NCAA transfer portal. Brown was also notably arrested and charged with possession of a fake identification and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in July. Which resulted in him serving a one-game suspension to start the season for the Hawkeyes.

This season for Iowa, Brown has played in just three games and caught one pass for 18 yards. Appearing in 11 games last season and making four starts where he recorded a career-high 22 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown. Also rushing the ball nine times for 54 yards and being one of eight players to earn the team’s ‘Next Man In Award’ last season.

Brown started off his college career at Ohio State, playing in four games as a true freshman for the Buckeyes where he caught just one pass for five yards in the 2022 season. Ironically in a matchup against Iowa in a 54-10 win for the Buckeyes.

“I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season,” Brown wrote . “I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the
continued success of the program.”

Brown played high school football at St. Rita in Chicago where he was a four-star prospect. Ranked the No. 107 overall recruit and the No. 20 wide receiver in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
