With less than five laps to go at Talladega the big one happened involving 28 cars. Brad Keselowski is not going to take the blame for it, though. On the replay, it looked like the NASCAR champion gave a misplaced bump to Austin Cindric, triggering the crash.

However, is that the entire story? Prior to the contact, Cindric had pulled out and away from the inside line behind him. At least enough for a run to come. As the line got to the No. 2 car, everything bunched up and then all Hell broke loose.

So, is it on Brad Keselowski? We know he is one of the most talented superspeedway racers of his generation. But we also know that he has caused some massive wrecks at Daytona and Talladega in his career too.

Keselowski was quick to defend himself online . He shared the SMT Data from the race, showing that he lifted and hit his brake. With the 22 and 21 behind him, creating that accordion effect as the cars bunched up, he was shot up into the No. 2 car.

Take a look for yourself and you decide.

This wreck not only changed this race, it completely changed the playoff standings. Drivers like Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick avoided the wreck and were rewarded with a ton of points. Meanwhile, drivers like Logano, Chase Elliott, and Chase Briscoe were hurt by the ordeal.

Brad Keselowski falls short of historic win

Brad Keselowski was racing for the win. He is no longer in the playoffs, but he still has goals in mind for his season. With six Talladega wins in his career, getting that seventh would be truly special and historic. No one was trying to wreck there, but Dega will be Dega.

Currently, Keselowski is tied with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon for second-most wins at Talladega all-time. Of course, the leader, Dale Earnhardt, is far away with 10 checkered flags.

This Next-Gen car has given a lot of veteran drivers issues. It has at the very least leveled the playing field and made it to where superspeedway talents like Keselowski, Hamlin, and Blaney aren’t able to always use those skills to their advantage.

Brad Keselowski finished Talladega P2 . William Byron gave Ricky Stenhouse Jr. a better push than Keselowski got from Kyle Larson. 0.006 seconds was the difference , and that is only the third-closest finish of the season.
