The SEC entered Week 6 with five teams ranked in the Top 10 of the AP Poll. But following a chaotic weekend of action across the country, half of those teams took losses. Shaking up the entire college football landscape and the SEC as we know it.

The biggest winner of the weekend was Texas A&M , defeating No. 10 ranked Missouri at home in a dominant 41-10 win. Currently representing the only team in the SEC with a 3-0 record in conference play this season that former Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier believes is leading the pack.

“There might be a championship game with both teams (having) at least one loss, I would guess,” Spurrier said on Another Dooley Noted Podcast . “Texas A&M’s sort of in the driver’s seat right now conference wise I think without any losses. Almost everybody else has one now.”

Both LSU and Texas are also still undefeated in conference play, but both have only played in one SEC game apiece. Two teams that will eventually have to travel to College Station to square off with the Aggies, who currently lead poll position in the league.

After suffering a Week 1 loss to Notre Dame , Texas A&M has been on a roll under new head coach Mike Elko . Who returned to the program after previously serving as an assistant for the Aggies and has shown early in the season that he has what it to takes to find success in the new era of college football.

“It’s who’s the best that day, it’s the story of football now with all the transfer portal, NIL. It’s getting more like all these pro teams. When you see the pros play it’s 2.5, 3-point odds, nobody’s a 20-point favorite,” Spurrier explained. “So all the players, it’s pretty close, so it comes down to maybe quarterback, receivers, running back, coaching. Coaching’s really important when the talent’s pretty even everywhere, it really is.”

Elko has seen success with two different quarterbacks under center this season for the Aggies. Paired with the second-best statistical rushing attack in the SEC, a solid defense, and one of the best home-field advantages in the country that definitely makes them a threat in the SEC moving forward.
