Multiple Alabama high school parents are being charged following a postgame fight. Citronelle quarterback Daylon Edmunds has also been removed from his school’s football team, per Simone Eli.

The decision to remove Edmunds came after an altercation broke out following a recent game that he became involved in. His father, Chris Edmunds, confirmed that he was no longer playing for Citronelle. Edmunds has also been suspended from school for five days.

That altercation was captured on video and appears to show Stephen Byrd and Chris Edmunds, both parents of players on the Citronelle football team, engaged in a verbal confrontation. It then becomes physical when Byrd lunges at Edmunds. That occurred in the bottom of the stands and punches were thrown. Daylon Edmunds, for his part, can be seen running to the stands before throwing a punch at Byrd.

In the video, Daylon Edmunds can be seen sprinting from the team’s on-field huddle following the game while still wearing his uniform. He then makes his way into the stands before becoming involved.

Both Stephen Byrd and Chris Edmunds were ultimately charged with disorderly conduct over the incident. They have both also posted bond.

Citronelle police chief Chris McLean says that it’s going to be the Mobile County Public School’s decision if either of the two parents are allowed on campus again.

“While this is a disappointing situation, it is not a reflection of the Citronelle community, school and football program. Coach Jason Rowell has worked hard to build the Wildcat program the right way — this was a situation in the stands between individuals who chose to begin a fight,” McLean said Monday.

For his part, Chris Edmunds feels the punishment for his son is overly harsh.

“I think it’s too harsh of a punishment for a kid who has never been in trouble,” Edmunds said. “He’s a straight-A student. I’m not saying he shouldn’t be held accountable, but I think it’s overboard to remove him from the football team.”

Mobile Country Public Schools District Athletic Director Brad Lowell also released a statement on the incident.

“We are aware of a minor altercation that took place after the game,” Lowell said. “We take these matters seriously. We are investigating and will handle it in accordance with our policies and procedures.

This Friday, Citronelle is scheduled to play B.C. Rain.
