South Carolina’s Repeat Tour begins in about a month, on November 4 in Las Vegas. Throughout the upcoming month, GamecockCentral will profile each member of the team and how she is expected to contribute this season. Today we look at the most exciting player on the roster, MiLaysia Fulwiley.

    MiLaysia Fulwiley (Sophomore, Guard, 5-10)
    38 games (3 starts), 11.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.7 spg
    Player profile
Fulwiley could be the most exciting player ever to don the garnet and black. Her athleticism, ball-handling, and shot-making turn even routing plays into something breath-taking. She also has a flair for the dramatic and had some of her best moments on the biggest stages. The scariest thing for opponents is that Fulwiley is still only scratching the surface of what she can do. She made remarkable strides last season, especially on the defensive end (compare her play in the first and second games against North Carolina and LSU, for example).

    Preseason assessment
Dawn Staley has made it clear to Fulwiley and anyone who will listen what the next step is. Fulwiley needs to be more consistent and do the little things that won’t show up on a highlight reel.

“From a maturity standpoint, practices are a lot different than what they were when she first started off. She takes them a lot more serious,” Staley said recently. “There’s no doubt about there are things that she does that no other female can do. It’s all the stuff that’s underneath being generational that you’ve got to consistently be good at.

Burning question: Will Fulwiley take the next step?
Great players want to be challenged by coaching. In all my interactions with Fulwiley, she seems to want to be challenged and wants to get better. Will she smooth out those rough edges and make the plays between the plays and reach her potential?
