Veteran NASCAR Cup Series spotter Eddie D’Hondt is joining Justin Haley’s No. 7 team at Spire Motorsports in 2025. D’Hondt has spent this season spotting for Josh Berry at Stewart-Haas Racing.

Prior to working with Berry, Eddie D’Hondt worked as the eye in the sky for two championship drivers, Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott. The spotter knows how to guide drivers around the track safely and quickly and is taking his talents to Spire.

D’Hondt has worked with crew chief Rodney Childers this season at SHR. It appears that the pair want to keep the relationship going and are joining forces once again at their new home in 2025.

On his X/Twitter account, D’Hondt shared the news himself.

“Very excited to announce a signed multi-year deal to join [Spire Motorsports]. and the #7 team,” D’Hondt posted. “Can’t wait to get started and help building forward.”

Spire Motorsports and Justin Haley are a very interesting pairing. Haley won a weather-shortened race at Daytona for Spire during his first stint with the team as a 20-year-old. Now, at 25, he returns with a bit of hype behind him.

Haley has always been seen as a potential star. His talents have been evident since he was racing in the K&N East Series. He has won races at every level of NASCAR and while he faded into the back of the pack in recent years, 2024 has opened eyes.

Paired up with Rodney Childers and Eddie D’Hondt, and also a very open secret contract with Hendrick Motorsports – the hype behind Haley has returned, and he should have the resources to follow through on that hype.

Justin Haley ready to take the next step

So, why is Justin Haley getting this hype again? What has he done to show that he is ready to take Spire Motorsports back to victory lane, in a full race this time? This season for Haley has arguably been his most impressive since 2022 with Kaulig.

In that season, Haley finished P3 at Darlington, P3 at Texas, and P5 at the Roval. He scored six top-10s in the same car for 2023, including P2 at Chicago when Shane van Gisbergen put the moves on him late. But this season, he’s taken Rick Ware Racing to new heights.

Of course, Haley has already made the switch to the No. 7 team this year. He swapped rides with Corey LaJoie at Kansas to get a head start on his new gig. But P9 at Darlington and Gateway in the 51 car is nothing to ignore. And he just finished P7 at Talladega in his second race with Spire this season.

Justin Haley hype is back. But is it for real this time? Or another false alarm?
