In his fourth year as the Longhorns’ head coach, Steve Sarkisian has learned a lot about being a Texan. However, the 50-year-old still hadn’t tried a Fletcher’s Corny Dog, one of the most beloved food items at the Texas State Fair.

In the week leading up to Texas ‘ showdown against Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout, Sarkisian suggested treating himself to one of the savory treats if his Longhorns emerged victorious. After Texas’ 34-3 win over the Sooners on Saturday, Sarkisian entered the postgame press conference with a Fletcher’s Corny Dog in his hand.

Sarkisian earned the tasty reward. Texas was dominant in the rivalry matchup, outgaining the Sooners on offense by 167 total yards. The Sooners’ three points were their lowest offensive output of the season, handily surpassing their previous low of 15 points against Tennessee .

It was a delicious dish of revenge for Sarkisian and his Longhorns, who suffered a 34-30 loss to Oklahoma last year. In the win, UT quarterback Quinn Ewers made his return after missing two games due to an abdominal injury.

After shaking off some early signs of rust, Ewers was stellar against the Sooners, completing 20-of-his-29 pass attempts for 199 yards and a touchdown. Ewers punched in a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Ewers was far from the Longhorns’ only standout. Oklahoma had no answer for Texas running back Quintrevion Wisner , who tallied a game-high 118 rushing yards and a touchdown.

If it wasn’t already obvious by the score, Texas’ defense did its part as well, squeezing two turnovers out of the Sooners. With the win, Texas took back the coveted Golden Hat Trophy, which is annually given to the winner of the rivalry game.

Ewers couldn’t be prouder of his team’s victory.

“It’s awesome to get the hat back,” Ewers said. “We didn’t have it for a year. It feels good to finally get it back. I couldn’t be more proud of the guys and all the hard work we put in. It’s good to finally get back on the field with my guys. You know I missed two games.

“I didn’t fully play the way that I wanted to. But I think overall, the way that we play football, that’s what gives us chances to win games. It’s just the complementary football that we do play as a whole.”

Steve Sarkisian and Co. won’t have long to celebrate their triumph. On Saturday, the Longhorns will square off against Georgia at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ABC.
