The Flagship: Former Reb OL Ben Still and the solve of Ole Miss’ biggest issue

In this all-new edition of ‘The Flagship,’ powered by College Corner, the Ole Miss Spirit’s Zach Berry ( OMSpirit.com ) welcomes former Rebel Ben Still, a multi-year starter for Ole Miss over his career in the mid-2010s.

Ole Miss is 5-2 (1-2) on the 2024-25 season and on its bye after its latest loss at LSU. The Rebels still haven’t won in Death Valley since 2008.

Their contender status for the first-ever, 12-team College Football Playoff these many years later is in peril because of it — a 29-26 overtime stinker.

“I did say (Monday), ‘You’re a really good team,’” fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said . “‘Hey, you have the room and ability everybody doesn’t have to say, ’Let’s go win out.’ You have a chance to do that.’

“I think a lot of people don’t realistically have that chance with their roster.”

Where do the Rebels go from here?

Again, Ole Miss is off this week, but the Rebels get Oklahoma (4-2, 1-2) two Saturdays from now. The new-look Sooners were whipped by top-ranked Texas over the weekend.

Berry and Still discuss the struggles of the Ole Miss offensive line in particular. They also consider how the home stretch could shake out for the Rebels — assuming they make some much-needed and long-overdue tweaks.

“Everything can be worked on and improved,” Kiffin said. “We look at all things in the bye; we’ve definitely started looking up front (on the Ole Miss offensive line).

“Some of that is injury-based, too. We’ve had two returning starters (Jayden Williams and Jeremy James) who’ve been out a few weeks. That’s certainly not allowed us to make moves that we otherwise may have made.

“I think there will be some changes there.”
