Uga owner announces Georgia mascot won’t travel to Austin for reunion with Bevo

While there’s plenty of hype for Georgia at Texas based on what will happen on the field, a rematch between their live mascots, Uga and Bevo, was something the college football world was hoping to see, as well.

During the Bulldogs’ last clash with the Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 2019 in New Orleans, Uga X, known as Que, famously got into it with the Longhorns live mascot in Bevo. Their meeting became a viral sensation, as Bevo made a beeline for Uga before the crowd of people surrounding the two animals scatted. Check out the video below, shared by Danny Davis of the Austin American-Statesman , to refresh your memory.

Evidently, there won’t be a sequel to the first meeting between the two, as the Bulldogs’ latest live mascot, Uga XI, is staying put in Savannah, per his owners via Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald .

“There will be no round 2 of Uga vs. Bevo in Georgia football’s top 5 matchup at Texas Saturday night,” Weiszer reported . “The Bulldogs live mascot, Uga XI, is staying put in Savannah, his handler and owner Charles Seiler told the Athens Banner-Herald Friday morning.”

According to Uga XI’s owner, the trip is simply too far, even though Uga XI would love to make the journey to Austin: “No dog,” Seiler said, via Weiszer . “This dog is only two and two months. He hadn’t been on a plane yet, hand’t been on a bus yet. The trip is just too far for us.”

Perhaps it’s part of a larger problem, as Georgia ventures further outside their normal travel parameters due to conference expansion. The drive is simply too much for the 64-year-old Seiler to make.

“The worst part is coming back because I’ve got to jump in the car and drive home from Athens when the sun is coming up,” Seiler added, per Weiszer . “That was OK when I was a younger man, but I’m 64 now. My wife tells me you ain’t doing that by yourself.

“I have a feeling I’m going to have problems reaching these outer games. We haven’t been to Texas A&M yet because we just hadn’t had their home game yet. … With these added games and added playoff games, the road stuff is getting tough for us.”

Alas, Uga XI and Charles Seiler will be watching intently on television instead of making the trip to Austin, like many Bulldogs fans. Maybe they’ll still be able to bring Georgia some luck, as Kirby Smart’s squad need it, with everything on the line for them this weekend.
