COLUMBUS — Ohio is regarded as one of the gem states when it comes to high school football. The Buckeye State year in and year out produces plenty of college talent from FBS all the way to Division III.
There are only two more weeks left in the regular season and Lettermen Row runs through the On3 Massey Ratings of the top 25 teams in the state.
The No. 1 team in Ohio lies in the Queen City of Cincinnati and Archbishop Moeller is rolling through its schedule. Moeller is on a four-game win streak and has week-nine action at home on Saturday against No. 11 St. Edward.
Marion Local looks to keep its undefeated streak alive with its final home game of the year. The Flyers host conference rival Minster (7-1) before a big week 10 game at Coldwater.
Walsh Jesuit looks to pick up a big win against Division I Brunswick on the road to keep its undefeated streak going.
No. 4 Avon (8-0)
Avon hosts Amherst (6-2) in its final home game of the year. The Eagles have 2026 four-star ATH Jakob Weatherspoon on their defense, an Ohio State lean.
Massillon Washington are the reigning Division II champs and have played a national schedule this fall. The Tigers host Warren G. Harding on Friday which has 2025 On300 ATH Chaz Coleman.
Archbishop Hoban boasts one of the best defensive units in the state and got back on track last week with a shutout win over Glenville. The Knights hit the road this week, however, against Central York from Pennsylvania.
Anderson looks to keep its undefeated strike alive heading into Week Nine action. The Raptors host No. 12 Winton Woods in what should be a defensive battle. Anderson has 2027 EDGE Antwoine Higgins and Winton Woods has 2025 four-star EDGE and Alabama commit Justin Hill.
St. Xavier, led by quarterback Chase Herbstreit, the son of Kirk Herbstreit, got back into the win column last week. The Bombers look to stay in the win column with a home game against Cleveland St. Ignatius — home of 2025 Ohio State safety commit Cody Haddad.
The Firebirds of Lakota West are year in and year out one of the premier programs in the state. It holds a five-game win streak and looks for that to continue with a home game against cross-town rival Lakota East.
2026 ATH Cam Thomas plays for the Firebirds and the program also produced Ohio State sophomore safety Malik Hartford.
Lakota East produced Ohio State sophomore offensive lineman Austin Siereveld.
If Archbishop Hoban doesn’t have the best defense in the state, then that title belongs to Central Catholic. The Irish are riding a five-game win streak and will try to make that six games. Central Catholic hosts Toledo St. Francis de Sales
St. Edward has been the best team in Division I for the last three years, winning the state championship in three consecutive seasons. The Eagles travel to No. 1 Archbishop Moeller on Saturday.
Winton Woods has been a program on the rise ever since Chad Murphy took over as head coach. The Warriors are known for producing former Ohio State running back Miyan Williams and current Ohio State cornerback Jermaine Mathews.
The Warriors travel to Anderson for a top-25 matchup.
Columbus Bishop Watterson made it all the way to the Division III state title game last season and wound up losing. The Eagles, who graduated over 20 seniors, haven’t gone anywhere. They host 7-1 Harrison on Friday.
No. 14 Mentor (8-0)
Mentor takes its eight-game win streak into its final home game of the season looking for a big win over Strongsville. Strongsville has 2026 On300 linebacker and priority Ohio State target Storm Miller.
Highland is riding an undefeated season so far and will take its unbeaten record on the road. The Hornets play at Cuyahoga Falls on Friday.
Wapakoneta has dominated in every game it’s played this fall and it looks to do the same this Friday. The Redskins host Bath.
One of the powerhouse programs of Central Ohio, Pickerington North, has very quietly had a strong 2024 campaign. The Panthers travel to conference opponent New Albany in search of their eighth win of the year.
All of the talk about high school football in Northeast Ohio usually goes toward the Cleveland area, but don’t sleep on Youngstown either. Ursuline is an elite program and will go for its eighth win of the season on Friday at Chaney.
Coldwater sets the standard when it comes to football excellence in Northwest Ohio. The Cavaliers take their undefeated record on the road to Versailles.
Princeton is still finding its stride after a stunning 34-0 loss two weeks ago. The Vikings, while back on track with two wins since then, travel to Middletown on Friday.
The program on the Ohio River. Ironton consistently fields an excellent team and the Fighting Tigers are at it again this season. Ironton hosts Gallia Academy on Friday.
Wadsworth has fought to stay undefeated this season, marked by two separate overtime wins. The Grizzlies look to avoid overtime this week against Solon in order to pick up their ninth win of the year.
La Salle is another premier program out of Cincinnati and it continues to have a strong 2024 campaign. The Lancers look to get back into the win column this week with a home game against Harvest Prep.
One of two Central Ohio teams ranked in the top 25 is Olentangy Orange. The Pioneers are under a resurgence with new head coach Wes Schroeder and are slated to have a high seed in their division. Orange hits the road for a conference game at Hillard Bradley.
The final team in the top 25 heading into Week Nine is Anthony Wayne out in Whitehouse. The Generals will hit the battlefield in enemy territory on Friday at Sylvania Northview.
