Steve Spurrier Can’t Resist Throwing Passive Aggressive Jabs at Kentucky

There’s just something about Steve Spurrier . Thirty years later, the Head Ball Coach is still throwing jabs at Kentucky. Even though we should expect it by now, it still needles away at Big Blue Nation.

Ryan Black warned me last night that Spurrier shared a couple of doozies for a Courier-Journal story . Even with the advanced notice, I was steaming at the former Florida coach this a.m.

It’s not just that Spurrier says, “Kentucky stinks and I hate ’em.” That would be too easy. He is passive aggressive whenever he tears down the Cats, even way back in the 90s when he was complimenting the Kentucky punter. Despite three straight Florida losses in the series, he’s still throwing his fastball anytime he gets a chance to take a shot at Kentucky.

“Everybody says (coach Mark Stoops ) has done a heck of a job there. So I guess 3-3 may be pretty good for (Kentucky) , I don’t know,” Spurrier said.

He later added, “I think he’s doing a good job — not a great job, but a good job,” Spurrier said. “A ‘great job,’ you’re competing for divisions, this, that, and the other. But maybe Kentucky and South Carolina and those schools, if you can win more than you lose? That’s pretty good, pretty good.”

He’s giving Kentucky football a pat on the back and a “bless your heart.” I could see the steam rolling out of Adam Luckett’s ears when he saw those statements.

Kentucky fans endured this bullcrap for 20 years before the Wildcats finally beat the Head Ball Coach. At least we have the sweet satisfaction of knowing that he ended his career on a two-game losing streak against Kentucky.

Spurrier is Picking Florida to Beat Kentucky

While he’s needling Kentucky fans, things are tenuous in the Sunshine State. It’s no secret that Billy Napier’s seat is toasty . While the current head coach struggles, the former has to do his best to filter his comments. Napier is already under enough pressure. Imagine how bad things would get if Spurrier started calling him an idiot. That’s why the Head Ball Coach is taking a hands-off approach through this tumultuous time.

“Of course, I’m not negative,” Spurrier said. “Obviously, we’re not as good as we hoped we were going to be. We’ve spent as much money as almost anybody. We’ve got hundreds of personnel, and we’ve not achieved a whole bunch.

“He’s got a losing record. And at Florida, if you’ve got a losing record after three years , you’re not doing very well, I wouldn’t imagine. But we try to stay as positive as we can. I try to always say, ‘I think we’re ready to win.’ I’ve picked us to win every game this year, but we’re 3-3. And I’ll pick us again to beat Kentucky, and we’ll see what happens.”
