Texas at Vanderbilt odds: Early point spread released, How to Watch

As the college football season continues, the Texas Longhorns will travel to Nashville in Week 9 to face the Vanderbilt Commodores in a SEC clash.

Over the course of their history, Texas and Vanderbilt have faced off 12 times. The Commodores lead the all-time series 8-3-1. However, the two teams haven’t played since 1928, with the first game between the two programs taking place in 1899.

All that’s to say that there isn’t a large history to go off of for Texas at Vanderbilt. It’s been almost 100 years since their last meeting, so emotions will be running high as a rivalry is renewed inside the SEC for the first time.

Both programs have designs on making a run in the SEC, and while Texas may have a higher ceiling, it would certainly be an accomplishment for Vanderbilt to knock off another top team in 2024. The Commodores will bring the energy, and it’ll be up to the Longhorns to avoid disaster in Week 9.

With the season raging on for Texas and Vanderbilt, it seems as though no team in the Southeastern Conference has been safe from the upset bug during the 2024 college football season. According to ESPN’s Greg McElroy, anybody can beat anoybody in the SEC this year.

McElroy has been covering college football since 2014, and played in it as a quarterback at Alabama under Nick Saban before that. According to McElroy, this is the most interesting the conference been in a long time.

“This is the craziest version of the SEC I’ve ever covered,” McElroy said. “I have been in this business since 2014 and in the SEC, there was a very clear and obvious pecking order for a very long time. Okay, Vanderbilt was the bottom. Alabama was at the top for a vast majority, and then there for a little bit, like, maybe you had Georgia who was right there neck and neck.

“None of the middle of the SEC were capable of knocking off the top teams. None of the bottom of the SEC was capable of knocking off any of the top teams. Like that wasn’t going to happen. No way. No way whatsoever. Well, y’all that’s changed nowadays, this year in particular.”

McElroy continued: “I’m telling you, man, the parity that I’ve seen in the SEC this year — I think it’s the craziest version of the SEC. I think it’s the deepest version of the SEC. And right now, the top of the SEC, outside of Texas, there is a little bit of uncertainty. So I’m feeling that we’ve had some upsets already, but we are poised to have a whole bunch for as the season continues to move forward.”

One thing is for sure, whoever does end up at the top when the season is over in the SEC, they’ll certainly have earned their position.
