Mississippi State has won the last two matchups against Arkansas, but the Bulldogs are in an interesting position this year. With new coach Jeff Lebby in charge, they struggled mightily to start the year and lost starting quarterback Blake Shapen to a season-ending injury, as well.

As for the Razorbacks, they faced some questions around head coach Sam Pittman , but a hot start to SEC play made things interesting. Taylen Green has emerged as the centerpiece of Bobby Petrino’s offense and shook off an injury suffered against Tennessee prior to the bye week.

With an overhauled roster, Mississippi State also faced a tall task with a challenging schedule. Entering Week 8, the Bulldogs had the hardest strength of schedule in the country and the 11th-hardest remaining schedule, according to ESPN .

But Jeff Lebby isn’t shying away from the tough nature of the season. He understands how difficult the SEC is, and that’s why a hard schedule could be a learning experience for his developing roster.

“I think again, for us you learn exactly who you are and where you’re at every single step of the way,” Lebby said. “And so understanding that inside this league you get to do it against the best every single Saturday, and as a competitor man-to-man, that’s exactly what you want.

“So for us to be able to go out and just find a way to have a happy locker room, go 1-0, man that’s our focus, that’s the intent. But so many lessons have been learned over the last couple of weeks and that won’t change.”
