Protest signs posted near flashing traffic signals at First Corridor
A special meeting was held on early Monday morning at Hiawatha City Hall, where a decision was made to set the traffic lights located at the First Corridor--located at the Intersection between Oregon Street and U.S. Highway 73--back into flashing caution mode at 9 a.m. Stop signs were also installed. As of this writing, the traffic signals flash the red and yellow lights as they did previously before they were reactivated to normal mode back on Wednesday, May 22.

Heartland Park auction extended by one week

Manhattan Man Killed in Collision on U.S. 36 Highway
A Manhattan man lost his life in a two-vehicle crash in Washington County on an early Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred when 46-year-old Brian Dowling, driving an eastbound pickup truck on U.S. 36 Highway, attempted to pass another vehicle and collided with an oncoming semi, about five miles east of Cuba.

ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas — Super-fast fiber internet service will soon be available to hundreds of Arkansas City families and businesses, thanks to IdeaTek. The Buhler-based internet company will begin construction in August. By fall, IdeaTek will begin delivering unlimited and uncapped speeds of up to 2.5 gigabits per second to the city’s first few neighborhoods. IdeaTek's 100-percent fiber investment of nearly $6 million will connect over 6,100 homes and businesses to fiber.
