Central New York Responders Go Above and Beyond to Assist Tornado Victims
Cleanup efforts are underway after a tornado outbreak devastated parts of Central New York, particularly the City of Rome. With over 25,000 customers in Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida County currently without power; crews from across the United States and Canada are heading to the area to assist with restoration. A State of Emergency has since been declared by Governor Kathy Hochul to further assist with recovery efforts.

Yesterday, MACNY, The Manufacturers Association and Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) hosted a ceremony celebrating the graduates of the Real Life Rosies™ program. The graduating cohort was comprised of Thomas R. Proctor High School seniors that completed the Real Life Rosies program. The graduates were offered summer employment at Indium Corporation, Square 1 Coating Systems, and Semikron Danfoss, some of which were funded through Oneida County’s Summer Youth Employment Program.

Storms impact the Mohawk Valley
State Agencies Fully Engaged in Response Operations Statewide to Ensure Local Partners Have Access to All Available Resources. At Governor Hochul’s direction, the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has activated the State Emergency Operations Center to support local governments’ requests for assistance. The State Office of Fire Prevention and Control has also activated its Fire Operations Center and will deploy teams, including canine units to provide support. The State’s swift water rescue teams are also prepared to respond. Members of the NYS Police, Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Conservation, Parks, Public Service Commission and others are assisting in the response.
