Auburn's Phillips is top fundraiser among NY Assembly challengers
Boosted by the state's new public financing system, Auburn Democrat Ian Phillips has more money in the bank than any Assembly challenger in New York. Phillips, who is challenging Republican Assemblyman John Lemondes in the 126th district, reported $206,786 cash on hand after receiving $175,000 in state matching funds — the maximum amount available to eligible Assembly candidates participating in the state public campaign finance program.

A Weedsport man died after being hit by a train in Onondaga County. At about 4:47 p.m. Wednesday, the New York State Police responded to CSX railroad tracks in the town of Van Buren for a report of a man who was injured after being struck by a passing train, state police said in a news release.

Syracuse, N.Y. – Three people were seriously injured after a head-on collision on Interstate 690 West early Sunday morning. Around 6 a.m., Jimmy Brown, 35, was driving eastbound on I-690 near the fairgrounds in a Chevrolet Malibu when he lost control and crossed over the highway’s median, according to an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office release.
