State Rep. BeGole faces GOP opponent in fight to keep Michigan House seat
LANSING, MI — A former sheriff’s fight to keep his state House seat will begin against a fellow Republican during the Tuesday, Aug. 6, primary election. Voters first elected Brian BeGole to the Michigan House of Representatives’ District 71 seat in 2022. The former Shiawassee County sheriff represents parts of Genesee, Saginaw and Shiawassee counties.

Mid-Michigan Matters: Conservation efforts: Endangered species
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Taking steps to protect and preserve endangered species at the Potter Park Zoo through conservation efforts. The zoo will upgrade the historic Feline/Primate Building with $10 million in state funding. Rachel Marlatt with Potter Park Zoo, ties in International Tiger Day on July 29 (celebrating at the zoo on July 27) with the building upgrade and how it will improve the space for big cats. Marlatt also relates the improvements to the zoo’s conservation efforts to protect and preserve endangered species. The zoo welcomed in two new animals this year, the lynx and okapi. New baby animals include the red panda, lemur, and otters. Construction for the new animal clinic begins this fall, with an estimated completion date of Winter 2025.

2 Michigan men sentenced after threatening people with firearms at convenience store
(CBS DETROIT) - Two Lansing men have been sentenced to prison for making threats and carrying firearms inside a convenience store, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday.Quentin Earl Booth, 39, was sentenced to 71 months and three years' supervised release. Derrick Smith Jr., 30, was sentenced to 57 months. Federal prosecutors say in September 2023, police responded to a store in Lansing about a report that Smith walked into the store with an assault rifle.
