Lansing Duo Sentenced for Brandishing Firearms in Convenience Store Ordeal
Two men from the Lansing area have been dealt sentences by the federal court for brandishing firearms in a convenience store, an incident that witnesses described as terrifying, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office reported by Lansing State Journal. Quentin Earl Booth, aged 39, receiving a 71-month stint in prison followed by three years' supervised release and Derrick Smith Jr., 30, getting a 57-month sentence with two years subsequent supervised release.

Jackson approves $4.5M contract to replace outdated pipes in city water system
JACKSON, MI - A project to improve the quality and flow of water underneath Jackson’s streets is ready to move forward. The Jackson City Council on Tuesday, July 16, approved a tentative construction contract of about $4,599,516. The contract will employ the Jackson-based Dunigan Brothers Inc. construction company to replace several miles of piping beneath Jackson’s streets as part of a water main replacement project organized through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program.
Police identify Clare hit-and-run driver accused of injuring motorcyclist and passenger
CLARE — On July 18 around 11:23 p.m., a serious accident occurred at the intersection of 5th and McEwan in the city of Clare. A white Chevrolet SUV, driven by Thomas Vernon Claringbold III of Clare, was speeding south on McEwan and struck an orange Harley Davidson motorcycle at the intersection, police said. The motorcycle was carrying a male driver and a female passenger, both from Mason, MI, who suffered serious injuries, police said. One person was taken by ambulance, while the other was flown out of the Clare Municipal Airport by a FlightCare helicopter. Claringbold, who fled the scene, was quickly located and identified. Police said he was uninjured. He was arrested and charged with the following crimes:
