DNR exploring creation of National Heritage Area designation in the Copper Country
Undated - The Department of Natural Resources wants to know what residents think about creating a “Copper Country National Heritage Area” in the western. U-P. The DNR’s Office of Public Lands and Michigan History Center are joining forces, and will begin working with local groups to determine the feasibility of a National Heritage Area designation. It would cover Keweenaw, Houghton, and a small portion of Ontonagon counties, including Isle Royale. The DNR is holding 2-public input sessions about the possible designation at Michigan Tech on July-9th. They’ll take place from 2-to-4 p-m and 6-to-8 p-m in the Alumni Lounge in the Memorial Union Building.
