Membership in the Penn State Alumni Association can help you show and share your Penn State Pride this season. Here’s how you can get involved, cheer on the Nittany Lions, and stay updated on everything happening on and off the field this fall.
If you’re not yet an Alumni Association member, you can join online . Membership includes perks like discounts on Penn State gear, invitations to exclusive events, the Penn Stater magazine, and much more. But the biggest benefit of being part of the association is the very real connection it gives you to the University and to the family of Penn Staters around the world.
The Football Letter
Available exclusively to Alumni Association members, The Football Letter is a firsthand account of each Penn State football game, written for Penn State alumni. From team arrival to post- game interviews, the Football Letter captures the game-day experience in Happy Valley and brings you up close with the players and coaches, through captivating videos, photos, and social media coverage.
Hosted by Football Letter Editor John Patishnock Jr., weekly episodes will feature conversations with inspiring lettermen and with volunteer leaders who bring the Alumni Association’s mission to life. Also, select episodes will include historic insight from Football Letter Editor Emeritus John Black (1976–2021), drawing on his time covering Penn State football.
The inaugural episode of this season will be released Monday, Aug. 26 and will feature letterman and current Penn State senior development officer Lydell Sargeant, as well as WFMZ sports reporter/anchor, Destiny Sanchez, who graduated from Penn State this year and covered Penn State football and the University’s 31 varsity athletic programs.
The Alumni Association will host the premier pregame event at away football games, featuring the Penn State Cheerleaders, the Nittany Lion, and special guests, along with enhanced family- friendly games, Penn State Bakery cookies, and more. There is no cost to attend, though registration is required.
The USC tour package includes a two-night stay in downtown Los Angeles, at JW Marriott LA Live; a Friday night mixer, co-hosted by the Alumni Association and a local alumni chapter; and the Roar Tour Pep Rally. Also included will be a tour souvenir, event lanyard and credential, and more. The Roar Tour Pep Rally and Friday night mixer will feature performances from the Pep Band, Penn State Cheerleaders, and the Nittany Lion.
Penn Staters not traveling on the official tour are invited to register for the Friday night mixer when signing up for the USC Roar Tour . The Friday night mixer will be held at Tom’s Watch Bar, located in LA Live and within walking distance of the JW Marriott, the hotel where tour travelers are staying. There is a of $60 for members and $75 for non-members not on the official tour.
Away Game Mixers
The night before away games, the Alumni Association partners with a local alumni chapter to welcome alumni and fans for an evening of Penn State camaraderie. Often, the night features performances from the Penn State Cheerleaders, Nittany Lion, and Pep Band (comprised of members of the Blue Band). Having the band and cheerleaders onsite is always a highlight for local and traveling alumni and fans, with the Alumni Association funding the travel expenses for the Pep Band.
Away Game Mixers are set for: West Virginia (Aug. 30), USC (Oct. 11), Wisconsin (Oct. 25), Purdue (Nov. 15), and Minnesota (Nov. 22).
When registering for the Roar Tour at USC , you can sign up for the Friday night mixer at Tom’s Watch Bar, located in LA Live. You will have that option before submitting registration. Admission cost is $60 for members and $75 for non-members. Admission for the Friday night mixer at USC is included for Penn Staters traveling on the tour package.
Registration for this season’s mixers at West Virginia and Wisconsin will be available later this year.
Please note: There will still be mixers at Purdue and Minnesota, though the Pep Band, Penn State Cheerleaders, and Nittany Lion will not attend.
Please note: The events page may not list all watch parties that are planned. Penn Staters are recommend to find their chapter on the Alumni Association’s groups page and visiting your chapter’s website or social channels or emailing the president.
S-Zone and Shakers
The Penn State Alumni Association—with support from Lion Ambassadors and the Blue & White Society—helps create the best student section in the country, the S-Zone. No home game in Beaver Stadium would look the same without the organization of the S-Zone and distribution of S-Zone t-shirts to students in that section. And it just wouldn’t be game day without the blue and white shakers that wave passionately throughout the student section in Beaver Stadium during Penn State football home games.
