Four-Star Athlete Matthew Outten Flips To Penn State Football From Virginia Tech

Class of 2025 four-star athlete Matthew Outten has flipped his commitment from Virginia Tech to Penn State football, he announced Monday. The Portsmouth, Virginia, native committed to the Hokies on July 1.

The 6’0″, 200-pound athlete is the No. 9-ranked player from the state of Virginia and the No. 15-ranked athlete in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings . According to the same metric, Outten joins a Penn State class that was ranked No. 16 in the country before his commitment.

Outten, who will likely play wide receiver, joins four-star receiver Lyrick Samuel , and three-star receivers Jeff Extinor Jr. and Koby Howard in the Nittany Lions’ 2025 class. As a receiver, Outten caught 22 passes for 480 yards and six touchdowns last season, per his MaxPreps profile .
