Penn State football tight end Tyler Warren was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes a student-athlete for combined athletic and academic success. Warren is one of 203 semifinalists announced by the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Candidates for the award must be a senior in their final year of eligibility or a graduate student, have a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, possess outstanding football ability as a significant contributor to their team, and showcase strong leadership.

Warren is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, who graduated in fall 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in advertising/public relations. He is seeking a second degree as a telecommunications major.

Warren has excelled on the field as well. During the preseason, Warren was named to the John Mackey Award watch list , an award given to the nation’s most outstanding tight end.

This season, Warren has recorded 16 catches for 226 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Against Kent State, Warren even threw a passing touchdown for 17 yards to Nick Singleton.

The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on October 23, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class.
