Opelousas Catholic reigned supreme on the Louisiana Sports Writers Class 1A All-State baseball and softball teams.

After guiding the baseball team to its first Division IV Select state title, senior Mark Collins earned Outstanding Player honors. Justin Boyd, was named Coach of the Year.

Collins, a Louisiana-Lafayette signee, hit .491 batting with one home run, 10 doubles, eight triples, 42 RBIs and 44 runs scored this season. He was the District 6-1A MVP. The Vikings defeated Glenbrook 10-0 in the Division IV final.

It was the team's first title in more than 50 years. Once known as Academy of the Immaculate Conception, in 1970, AIC won the second of back-to-back state championships. It later merged with Holy Ghost School to become Opelousas Catholic.

Meanwhile, softball coach Cullen Matherne was awarded Coach of the Year honors after leading the Vikings to their first state championship in his first season. Opelousas Catholic beat District 6-1A rival Catholic-Pointe Coupee 1-0 in the Division IV Select final.

Montgomery’s Zoey Fitts was voted the Outstanding Player. Fitts helped third-seeded Montgomery defeat No. 5 French Settlement, 5-4, in the Division IV Non-Select state championship game. Fitts batted .550 this season with 11 home runs, 58 RBIs, four steals and a .629 on-base percentage.
