OPELOUSAS, La. ( KLFY ) — Opelousas Police are asking for help in solving a 2023 murder near a school .

On Jan. 16, 2023, Kiare Vallian was shot several times and later died in the hospital.

Opelousas Police were dispatched to a report of a shooting at 204 Elementary Lane, directly across the street from Opelousas Junior High School.

Upon arrival, officers observed approximately 24 shell casings from at least three different firearms, leading from Market Street to the rear of the residence. The officers observed a black Toyota Camry belonging to Vallian struck by gunfire numerous times.

Vallian was located inside the apartment complex with several gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries 11 days later.
