Community members in Cade gathered for a town meeting in opposition to the expansion of a nearby landfill. Homeowners gathered at St. Anthony's Chapel on Friday, July 19, after recently launching an online petition against expansion of the landfill behind Burke Road in Cade.
Commission requests money to repair Heymann Performing Arts Center
A new study being contracted by the Heymann Commission will again look at the current site of the Heymann Performing Arts Center, examining whether to renovate the historic facility as opposed to replacing it. In the interim, the commission is requesting $250,000 for repairs in the upcoming Lafayette city budget.

Shreveport, LA – A devastating 53-mile long track tornado touched down in northern Red River and Bossier Parish, Louisiana, on Monday, July 8. The National Weather Service in Shreveport confirmed the tornado, rating it an EF-2 with estimated peak winds of 115 mph. The tornado, which occurred between 2:15 PM and 3:50 PM, lasted over 90 minutes and left a path of destruction approximately 1,000 yards wide, causing two injuries and one fatality.
