Mizell Memorial Hospital Board of Directors will be seeking a new leader as its chief executive officer has resigned.

Mitchell Myers announced he was stepping down as the CEO and has accepted a position as the regional director of hospital operations with River Region Psychiatry Associates. His last day at Mizell will be Friday, June 7.

The board of directors named the hospital’s community outreach coordinator, Dr. Lori Stanfield, as the interim CEO until a permanent replacement is named. A Covington County native and 2008 Straughn High School alumnus, Myers has served in multiple leadership roles over several years at Mizell.

“I have been blessed with an opportunity I could not pass up. I wish nothing but success to Mizell and will work closely with Dr. Lori during this transition to make it as seamless as possible. She will be an incredible asset during the search for a permanent replacement,” Myers said.

Myers received his bachelor’s degrees in Human Environmental Sciences and Nursing and a minor in Biology from the University of Alabama. He completed his master’s degree in Nursing at the University of South Alabama. He and his wife, Heather, have two children, Lora-Leigh and Zeke.

“We would like to thank Mitchell for his service to Mizell and our community over the last seven years providing leadership to our organization in several roles during his time. We wish Mitchell all the best in his future endeavors,” a Mizell Memorial Hospital statement read.

Stanfield said she looks forward to working with the hospital staff and board of directors until a permanent CEO is named.

“I am honored to be appointed interim CEO of Mizell Memorial Hospital and by the confidence placed in me by the board of directors of Mizell. We have a great team at Mizell, and my goal will be to continue a pattern of growth and service to Opp and the surrounding communities,” Stanfield said.

Mizell Memorial Hospital is located at 702 North Main Street in Opp. For more information call 334-493-3541.
