Broncos Legend Details ‘Chaotic’ Moment When He Was Cuffed On An Airplane After Alleged Assault: ‘My Dignity Was Stripped From Me’

Denver Broncos legend Terrell Davis on Wednesday said he was “humiliated” when he was handcuffed after a flight attendant accused him of assault.

On Saturday, Davis was on a flight with his family from Denver to Orange County, California. One of the attendants claimed Davis hit his shoulder during beverage service. As a result, multiple officers entered the plane after landing and Davis was escorted away in handcuffs.

Appearing on Good Morning America with his wife Tamiko Davis , Davis claimed he merely tapped the attendant on the shoulder to get his attention because one of his kids wanted ice with their drink.

“He swings his arm back and says, ‘Don’t hit me!'” Davis said, “and I’m like, ‘Dude, I didn’t hit you.’ And then he rushed up to the front of the plane, leaves the cart right there, and a gentleman in front of me turns around and says, ‘I saw everything. I saw that. You didn’t hit him.’ I’m like, ‘Of course I didn’t hit him.'”

After the incident, Davis said flight attendant came back to get his son a cup of ice. He then took the cart back to the front of the plane before another attendant took over.

At the time, Davis quickly got over the incident and thought nothing of it. It wasn’t until the plane landed and the passengers were instructed to remain in their seats that things seemed off.

Suddenly, the FBI and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were on the plane.

“Without explaining to me why they were doing it, they walk up to me and the guy just whispers in my ear, ‘Don’t fight it,'” Davis continued, “and he puts cuffs on me — while I’m sitting down.”

Tamiko was stunned by the scene that she thought it was some kind of prank.

“[Davis] just said quietly, ‘No, it’s not,'” she said. “And I’m looking at my sons who are sitting right next to him, watching their dad being handcuffed, and what could we do? And I’m asking them, ‘What is going on? Why are you doing this?'”

    “It was chaotic,” Davis added.

In a statement, United Airlines said the attendant has been removed from duty while it investigates the matter. Additionally, the airline reached out to Davis’ attorney to apologize.

Davis made sure to emphasize that the airline did not reach out to him directly.

“I felt demoralized,” Davis said. “I felt embarrassed, humiliated. I felt like my dignity was stripped from me right in front of my children and my family; and I want United to be held accountable.”
