Home of the Week: Inside a $60 Million SoCal Estate With Stunning Views of the Pacific

The real estate market in Orange County , California, rivals some of the most prestigious and expensive zip codes in Los Angeles. To wit, sprawling residence in Newport Beach’s exclusive Crystal Cove enclave that’s hit the market with a toe-curling $60 million price tag. The sky-high ask makes it the second most expensive home on the market in Orange County behind the $150 million Casa Grande compound in San Juan Capistrano.
Located at 20 Coastline Drive and exclusively listed by John Cain, president and founder of the CAIN Group at Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty, the newly built estate sits at the end of a cul-de-sac on just under an acre of land. The 18,336-square-foot home features six bedrooms and a dozen bathrooms spread over three levels.
A secure gated entrance leads to a motor court and an underground parking garage, while the entrance is grandly flanked by water features and manicured landscaping. Inside, you’re welcomed with a double-height foyer embellished by a dazzling glass orb chandelier. To one side is the formal living room, and on the other an office, both with Calacatta Barghini marble fireplaces.
A wall of glass peels open to expose the massive living room to the outdoors.
A three-story floating glass staircase is illuminated by natural light when the sun shines through the oversized windows, and across from the staircase is the spacious formal dining room. The nearby great room includes a family room, an open-plan kitchen, and a breakfast area. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels vanish into the walls at the touch of a button to connect the room to a covered patio designed for al fresco dining and lounging.
The sleek kitchen, also lined with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, is the heart of the home and features the same brushed limestone floors found throughout the house, along with rift-cut oak cabinets and an eat-in center island topped with thick slabs of Calacatta Oro Supreme marble. It’s the ultimate chef’s kitchen, too, complete with a six-burner Wolf range, two ovens, Subzero-paneled refrigerators, Miele dishwashers, and a separate catering kitchen that includes a Wolf espresso machine. Off the kitchen is a light-filled breakfast nook that overlooks the lush backyard, and just outside is a stunning loggia with a fireplace and integrated ceiling heaters.
The main level includes a junior suite with a full bathroom, while the additional bedrooms, three en suite guest and family bedrooms, as well as the lavish primary suite, are located upstairs. The primary suite, which may as well be its own wing of the house, has a massive ocean-facing balcony, a coffee bar, two walk-in closets, and a private fireside seating area.
The sleek kitchen, which spills out to an outdoor living room, includes an ocean-view breakfast area.
A home of this caliber certainly wouldn’t skimp on the leisure and entertainment options, and the lower level is dedicated to wellness and fun. There’s a home theater with an ample lounge area, a wine bar with a 150-bottle wine closet, a gym with a sauna, cold plunge, and steam shower, a bedroom for guests or staff, and a 10-car subterranean garage.
Outdoor amenities rival your favorite five-star resort—think an infinity-edge pool and spa, an outdoor kitchen and barbecue, and manicured lawns—while high-tech features are integrated throughout the home and include a home automation system, a Vantage lighting system, and integrated speakers.
Should all that not be enough to keep residents and guests relaxed and entertained, Crystal Cove allows resident-only access to The Canyon Club, which has an additional pool and gym, along with tennis and basketball courts. Crystal Cove State Park and the beach are just a short drive away as well.
