Barboursville man arrested for terrorism hoax at Martha Jefferson Hospital
An Orange County man has been charged with perpetrating a hoax terrorist attack at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital Wednesday morning. Daniel Sisk, a 49-year-old Barboursville resident, was spotted in the hospital east of Charlottesville city limits just before 11 a.m. Wednesday carrying a duffel bag and acting suspicious, according to police.

Independence Day activities all this week, weekend in the area
Various local communities are celebrating Fourth of July this week and weekend. Here’s a round-up of area events:. Playin’ in the Park Independence Day Celebration starts at 6 p.m. in Booster Park, next to the Orange County Airport. Free admission; donations accepted for OCHS Football for parking — arrive early. Gates open at 5 p.m. Enjoy live music by the Yurasits Family and Dave Goodrich, Touch-A-Truck and more. Fireworks will take place at dark. Bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. No alcohol is permitted and pets must be on a leash at all times. Food vendors will include Barbara’s Soul Food, Buffalo Wild Wings, B-Radd & Honey, R U Freak’n Hungry, Fabulous Foods, Dreamsicle Lemonade and Kona Ice of Culpeper.
Appomattox man faces gun, drug charges after traffic stop in Orange County
Matthew Morey, a 44-year-old Appomattox resident, was pulled over for speeding earlier this month in Orange County, but speeding is the very least of the charges he now faces. On June 20, two Orange County deputies say they were patrolling Constitution Highway, in the area of Village Road between the communities of Nasons and Rhoadesville, when they observed a vehicle traveling 76 mph.
Central Virginia under drought watch
The entire commonwealth of Virginia is now under either a drought watch or drought warning after a considerable lack of rain and significantly high temperatures. Drought warnings in Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley mean a drought is imminent and residents there are being urged to conserve water. And while Central Virginia’s less-severe drought watch does not mandate residents restrict consumption, it is nevertheless meant to serve as a caution to the community.
