Oregon City Municipal Elevator was the site of an alien invasion on Feb. 2. No authorities were called — there was no need — it was all part of the Portland Winter Lights Festival.

The video game “Space Invaders” inspired the light display projected onto the city’s Municipal Elevator.

“We made the top of the top of the elevator into an alien spaceship,” said Cyrus Zamani of Illuminate Oregon City, “and your job is to defend Earth by shooting the alien spaceship.”

Zamani is deeply involved in the Oregon City community. The owner of local business, The Party Factory, and maintainer of a “Free Blockbuster,” Zamani created Illuminate Oregon City as a way to display the group’s artwork and to give back to the city.

“This was kind of our way of trying to help show off our great city, Main Street and cool things going on around here. It’s a donation thing; we want to give back.” Zamani said. “We came up with the video game last year for New Year’s and that’s when we contributed that to the Portland Winter Lights Festival.”

Winter Lights Festival has installations all around the Portland area and runs through Feb. 10.
