In just five years, Oregon City will celebrate its 200th birthday — the first city in Oregon to do so.

Oregon City is, in many ways, a city of firsts. Located at the end of the Oregon Trail, the city is proud of its historic significance as the first settlement in Oregon.

Every summer, Oregon City hosts the First City Celebration, the largest downtown community event of the year. The 13th annual Oregon City First City Celebration is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 along historic downtown Main Street.

Each year the festival welcomes close to 7,000 visitors from around Clackamas, Washington and Multnomah County. The street fair brings together music, food, arts and crafts for an event the whole family can enjoy.

“It started as a way to celebrate the history of Oregon City and its origin at the end of the Oregon Trail,” said Juliana Allen, the executive director of the Downtown Oregon City Association. “We wanted to do something that honors our history while still progressing forward.”

This year’s celebration features local musicians playing all day, including New Age Phonograph, School of Rock, Lennon Holden and Bottleneck Blues Band.

With over 125 vendors and participating organizations, the First City Celebration also features plenty of activities for the entire family. This year, Soulflags Art and Community Center will host an entire kids' arts and crafts area.

“I just love our downtown area,” added Allen. “We have so many cute shops, amazing food, cuisine, drinks, all of that. I really love bringing the community into our downtown — getting people to know we’ve got some really cool stuff down here.”
