Oregon recently began the statewide 12-stop Statewide Transportation Safety and Sustainability Outreach Tour.

The state’s Joint Committee on Transportation planned the tour as a way to inform the public about efforts during the 2025 legislative session to develop a plan that tackles structural revenue challenges in the transportation sector. The plan focuses on completing work on major projects, maintaining critical infrastructure, and guaranteeing the safety and accessibility of transportation systems.

“As we consider the future of our state and how we can most effectively deliver a safe, accessible, and reliable transportation system for Oregonians, we are always looking at what we are doing as an agency to see where we can improve, become more efficient, and continue to deliver for Oregonians,” Oregon Department of Transportation Director Kris Strickler said.

The first stop was Portland on June 4. The city is the site of the state’s busiest highway interchanges, freight corridors, and ports.

Legislators and local officials took a bus along I-5 through the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project area to see multimodal transportation needs and stopped by the downtown Department of Motor Vehicles.

Lawmakers also held a roundtable conversation with local transportation leaders and a public hearing at Portland Community College.
