Lengthy prison sentence handed to Pontiac murderer
A Pontiac man will spend decades behind bars — and perhaps the rest of his life — for murdering a 20-year-old whose body was recovered from a Pontiac lake six years ago. At a hearing Monday in Oakland County Circuit Court, Judge Daniel O’Brien handed down a sentence of 36.5 to 80 years in prison for Angel Jose Alvarez for the slaying of 20-year-old Emilio Valdez. Valdez’s body was found in Osmun Lake in Pontiac on June 7, 2018, but it was four years before Alvarez was charged.
Jury returns with verdict in hotel shooting case
An Oakland County jury recently returned with a guilty verdict for a Pontiac man who had been accused of killing an Auburn HIlls man at a hotel late last year. At the conclusion of a trial held before Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren, jurors convicted Malcolm Otis Draper of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the death of 47-year-old Anthony Russell Holcomb.
Police release ages, hometowns of four killed in wrong-way crash in Royal Oak
Three members of one family were among those killed in a wrong-way crash Sunday that killed four on Interstate 75 early Sunday morning, according to Michigan State Police. The incident happened around 2:50 a.m. when the Detroit Regional Communication Center received calls about a wrong-way driver in a black Volkswagen driving north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near 11 Mile Road. The car crashed into a Dodge Caravan occupied by four people.
Chirco & Company softball game raises $10,500 for National Kidney Foundation
For a second-straight year, Chirco & Company stepped up to the plate for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. A St. Clair Shores-based non-profit, Chirco & Company – headed by Vito Chirco – hosted a charity softball event on Saturday, July 20 at Detroit Mercy. And for a second year in a row, the event raised $10,500 for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. The company has now raised $21,000 for the foundation.

Michigan doctor sentenced to prison after patient dies of drug overdose
(CBS DETROIT) - A St. Clair Shores doctor was sentenced to 20 years in prison for unlawful prescribing after his patient died of a drug overdose, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced on Thursday.Dr. Bernard Shelton, 67, was found guilty of 21 charges related to unlawful distribution of prescription drugs. He has been banned from prescribing drugs since 2017.Federal officials said in 2010, Shelton prescribed opioids to a 54-year-old patient who was previously treated with prescription-strength Motrin.
