Whether I need unique home decor, extra furniture, or just a few new additions to my wardrobe, I love checking out my local consignment shops, thrift stores, and antique markets. Not only do I find lots of unique and affordable stuff that way, but it also means something to me when I can give a pre-loved item a "new life," rather than just contributing to overconsumption by buying everything brand-new.

If you share that kind of mindset, and you're a lover of all things Disney, then you're gonna wanna check this place out. This modest, unassuming thrift shop near Orlando is secretly home to a treasure trove of lost and found items direct from Disney World!

From the outside, The HOPE Chest looks like any other thrift store , albeit a nice one. But according to Orlando local Genesis, aka @beercutieandfoodie , it has something that other thrift stores don't: a frequent stock of lost and found items sent over from nearby Disney World !

Of course, Disney World's policy is to help guests locate their lost-and-found items first, but they don't hang on to unclaimed items forever. According to Florida Today , Disney World keeps lost-and-found items for about three months before donating them to local charities like The HOPE Chest.

These lost-and-found donations are a random free-for-all, so there's no telling what you might get. Sometimes it's just cheap junk, but sometimes you can snag some really sweet items, including authentic Disney merch - and I'm not just talking Mickey ears, though they've got those by the bin. Genesis scored a pair of Ray-Bans she'd been eyeing for just $20, and her nephew got a souvenir drum from Animal Kingdom for just $4.99!

    The HOPE Chest

The HOPE Chest , run by the organization HOPE, is more than just a good place to snag secondhand Disney souvenirs. HOPE (which stands for Housing, Outreach, Prevention, and Education) is a nonprofit with a mission of preventing and reducing hunger and homelessness in Central Florida.

In addition to their Disney lost-and-found hauls, and the $1 Saturday thrifting sales that Genesis also highlighted, The HOPE Chest also sells essentials like furniture, home decor , appliances, infant and school supplies, and much more at modest prices. HOPE also operates a food pantry and a resource center to help people in crisis get the assistance and financial literacy training they need to help them achieve stability.

You don't have to be an avid Disney fan or thrift shopper to appreciate the good work HOPE does for their community. If you're in the area and you'd like to search for some unexpected Disney finds, pick up some affordable home goods, or donate some items of your own, visit The HOPE Chest at 1802 W Broadway Street in Oviedo, Florida, 32765.
