Rodeo fans will flock to Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee this weekend as an annual fall event returns with bucking bulls and fast horses.

Boots, Bulls and Barrels is back in Osceola County this Saturday for its seventh annual event with barrel racing, saddle bronc riding and bull riding. This one-night event by Silver Spurs Rodeo presents some of the most popular sports, providing live-action entertainment while fans wait for full-scale rodeos scheduled for next year.

“It’s inexpensive family entertainment. It’s a quick, fast-paced and fun rodeo,” said Randy Booth , the rodeo’s big boss. “We get to see a lot of bulls buck, and a lot of horses run fast.”

While the technology and show of the rodeo have adapted for modern times, the tradition of the Silver Spurs Riding Club dates back to the 1940s and the traditional events have remained the same.

“The whole organization is very special to me and to my family. My grandfather was big boss in 1947, then my dad in 1989,” Booth said. “Our volunteers and our commitment to the community are the two things that have kept this club strong. We’ve seen new generations of families bring their kids and grandparents bringing their grandkids.”

Mike Reilly, who moved to Osceola County with his family in the 1990s, remembers growing up with the rodeo and now brings his kids to the events.

“My kids get all dressed up in their cowboy hats and all that. To see them enjoy it the way I used to and to see my father, their grandfather, enjoy it the way he used to with me — it’s a special moment,” he said. “It’s a way for families to stick to their roots and their ancestries and to be a part of what their grandfathers and great-grandfathers did.”

Though fans come to see rodeo action and high-adrenaline entertainment, the club is dedicated to charitable giving in the community as one of its main missions.

“We always want to give back to the community. In the last three years, we’ve given away more than $100,000 to local charities,” Booth said.
