The Jones swarming defense, from players like Christian Robbins (3), Quinton Evans (33), Mykell Reid (41), Fred Ards (6) and Quimaine Myers (18), are a big reason why the TIgers are undefeated (7-0) and No. 1 in the Sentinel Super 16 Coaches Poll for the 10th straight week. For the fourth straight week, Jones (7-0) is the unanimous No. 1 choice by the 16 voters in the Sentinel’s Super 16 Coaches Poll following a week during which teams scrambled to squeeze in makeup games due to Hurricane Milton.

Jones, which has been No. 1 since the start of the season, captured the Class 4A, District 7 crown Friday night with a 31-19 win over Lake Wales.

There was quite a bit of jostling among the rest of the Top 10 from last week, thanks to then-No. 4 Orlando First Academy’s 36-25 victory over No. 5 Seminole and No. 6 Edgewater’s 44-18 dismantling of No. 2 Dr. Phillips.

The victory by TFA (7-1) was impressive enough to move the Royals into the No. 2 spot. Lake Mary (6-2) remained at No. 3 after a 31-6 victory over No. 11 Evans. Edgewater (7-2) moved up to No. 4. Osceola (6-2) advanced to No. 5 after beating No. 16 Apopka 14-6. Dr. Phillips (6-1) dropped to No. 6.

Seminole (6-2), which lost back-to-back games for the first time since losing seven straight in 2013, fell to No. 7

Four teams in the Super 16 clinched district titles last week and, so far, Jones, TFA, Lake Mary, Edgewater, Osceola and Bishop Moore have assured themselves of home games in the first round of the state playoffs, which open Nov. 15.

No. 13 West Orange (7-1) and No. 14 Ocoee (5-3) will settle the 7A-5 title Thursday at West Orange. A West Orange victory would give the Warriors the district title outright. An Ocoee victory would force a three-way tie with Apopka, and the district winner would be determined by FHSAA power rankings. This past week, West Orange had the upper hand as No. 8 in 7A. Apopka was No. 19 and Ocoee was No. 20.

No. 12 Evans (5-3) will host No. 11 Oviedo (6-2) for the 6A-4 crown Thursday. Evans has not won six games in a season or a district title since 2012.

No. 14 DeLand (4-3) will host No. 9 OC-University on Friday in a key 7A-3 game. It will not determine the district outcome with games still left on the schedules for both teams. University hasn’t beaten rival DeLand in seven tries. The Titans’ only two losses last season were to the Bulldogs. DeLand made the state semifinals in 2023 before losing to eventual champion Venice.
