Effort seeks to change law and allow backyard chickens in Lyndonville, other villages in Orleans
LYNDONVILLE – Kate Hardner seeks the public’s input as she tries to convince Lyndonville village officials to change a local law and allow for backyard chickens. Hardner was joined by friends and supporters of the effort during Lyndonville’s Fourth of July parade. They walked with inflatable chickens in the parade and advertised a Change.org petition – “For Cluck’s Sake! Stop the Backyard Chicken Ban.” Hardner and supporters seek to amend local laws to allow backyard chickens within the villages in Orleans County.
Orleans County man killed in crash
Pendleton, N.Y. — A motorcyclist from Orleans County died after a crash on the Fourth of July in Niagara County. New York State Police said a northbound vehicle on South Transit Road in Pendleton entered a median and began to turn left onto Tonawanda Creek Road around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, failing to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.

Drought Monitor: Precipitation levels return to normal across GLOW region
BATAVIA — The GLOW region has returned to normal moisture levels for the first time in more than a year. No drought or abnormally dry conditions were reported as of last Tuesday in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans or Wyoming counties, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

KNOWLESVILLE – Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are gearing up for the 2024 Flower Show, happening at the Orleans County 4-H Fair July 22-27. The slower show will once again be showcased next to the Master Gardener booth in the Lartz Building. Anyone in the community can enter an exhibit in one of eight categories – Fairy Garden, Floral Arrangement, Houseplant, Succulent, Unique Container, Hanging Basket/Urn/Pot, Garden Accent, and “Miscellaneous.”
