Great White Shark Rockets Out Of Water To Steal Striped Bass From Fisherman, Almost Flops Right Into The Boat

The taxman always gets his share. Or in this case, he gets the whole thing. Fishermen are always having to keep an eye out for the "taxman," which is what experienced fishers call sharks that lurk behind and around their boats, waiting to steal away their hard-earned catches. It's a really shallow thing to do, but you can't really blame the sharks in the sea for getting an easy meal. In this clip from 2019 out of Orleans, Massachusetts, it appears that a family had gone out on an excursion with Columbia Sportfishing when the striped bass they had hooked quickly turned into a lure for a
much bigger fish. The mother was trying to help guide the line back into the boat, and when the sizable bass started flopping on the surface of the water, prompting the great white shark to launch its attack. It was almost like a magic trick. One second, the striped bass was there, and the next, it was not. The great white shark attacked with so much speed that it actually overshot a bit, and violently flopped back down into the water while hitting its tail fin against the boat. If it would have had any more "umph" behind it, there's a chance the shark could have toppled into the stern of the boat. This video was actually posted again five years after it originally took place because it's a great example of how careful fishermen and fisherwomen should be as they get their catches out of the water. You just never know if or when a shark could come rocketing out of the deep blue sea to grab something that's not theirs:
"We’ve had a few reports of sharks taking bass this year. This video shows just how fast it happens. Fishermen should keep this in mind when retrieving and releasing fish." https://twitter.com/MA_Sharks/status/1814803545180545407?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1814803545180545407%7Ctwgr%5E5567cb2905154d711c1a7a094a50945b0345bca0%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fftw.usatoday.com%2F2024%2F07%2Fgreat-white-shark-attacking-hooked-bass-lesson-for-cape-cod-anglers
