NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Former New Orleans police officer Jeffrey Vappie was indicted on Friday, July 19, by a federal grand jury. Vappie faces seven counts of wire fraud for collecting money during time he drew a taxpayer salary while allegedly “he was engaged in personal activities, including carrying on a personal and romantic relationship with Public Official 1.” He also faces one count of making false statements to the FBI for denying the existence of such a relationship during the investigation. A summons has been issued for his arrest.

New Orleans woman booked with murder killed partner over life insurance, police say
An Orleans Parish magistrate found probable cause last week to charge a woman accused of killing her boyfriend in order to cash in on his $1 million life insurance policy. Commissioner Jonathan Friedman kept 37-year-old Kyana Traylor's bail at $500,000 at a preliminary hearing on July 8, during which New Orleans detective Michael Haynes testified about the evidence he gathered against Traylor earlier this year.
