Orono High School will perform “The Play That Goes Wrong” as the school’s spring play, with shows slated April 18-20.

“OHS students have been working hard to bring this show to life, and have had a blast getting to work on a show that is part murder mystery, part comedy. From learning to sword fight to rigging props that break on cue, this show has presented a fun challenge for the drama department. We hope you come see the hard work these kids have put into this production; you’re guaranteed to laugh,” said director Kelsie Balon Peck.

“The Play That Goes Wrong” begins before the curtain has even been raised, as the audience is present while the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society prepare to stage their new production – the 1920s murder mystery “Murder at Haversham Manor.” The set is not yet complete and there is no time to finish it off - but the show must go on!

With a murder (and a moving corpse) established from the beginning, the murder mystery gets into full flow. However, the props start to disappear, actors go missing and the set begins to collapse around, and often on, the cast. Mayhem ensues, the acting gets worse, and the set becomes increasingly dangerous, but the company struggles on regardless. The question is whether any of the cast and crew will remain standing, or conscious, by the final curtain?

“Annie has been a dream role of mine for several years. I like that she’s resourceful, she’s thrown into unexpected circumstances, and she’s funny without meaning to be. I also love the stunts that we get to do that bring this show to life,” said junior Greta Rolfzen, an actor in the production.

Performances are April 18, 19, and 20 at 7 p.m.; with a matinee showing on April 20 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at oronohs.booktix.com . The cost is $10 for students, seniors, and military members; and $12 for adults.
