Blooming Prairie's Old Fashioned Fourth of July festivities hit a major milestone this year. This week's celebrations marked the event's 50th anniversary. Overseen by the Blooming Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce, the festivities were projected to bring in approximately 20,000 visitors, expanding the town's occupancy tenfold. Despite a sprinkling of rain, the Old Fashioned Fourth of July parade drew a big crowd Thursday. The multi-day festival also featured a slate of food, games and live entertainment. The festivities culminate with the annual tractor pull on Saturday.
Fatal 4th of July accident claims the life of a 27-year-old
Thursday, a 27-year-old Red Wing man was killed in a tree climbing accident in Fleming Township, Aitkin County. The man has been identified as Henry M. Cannon. He was celebrating the 4th of July with several friends and was climbing a large white pine tree in a yard on the shores of Gun Lake. An estimated 2” diameter branch that he was climbing broke, and he fell approximately twenty-five feet to the ground.

ORONOCO, Minn. – A car/semi collision Friday morning injured two people in Olmsted County. It happened on Highway 52 around 7:14 am. The Minnesota State Patrol says a 2016 Toyota Camry driven by Denzel Merrel Wright, 24 of Fridley, and a 2013 Volvo semi driven by Rabin Feramarzi, 36 of Rochester, were both northbound when they crashed into each other near mile marker 65.
