(FOX40.COM) — In little over a day, the Thompson Fire in Butte County has become one of the most impactful blazes of the year, with thousands of people having to evacuate their homes, primarily residents northeast of Oroville and surrounding communities.

California’s governor has declared an emergency for the county , paving the way for more state and federal resources to be committed to the response, which comes during a lengthy heat wave across the state.
