ORRINGTON — It’s “yard sale” season in Maine and no one hosts a bigger yard sale than the Town of Orrington!

The Orrington Old Home Week Committee is pleased to announce the annual Old Home Week celebration, July 12-21. Music, food, shopping and fun await you in Orrington. The annual celebration represents tremendous collaboration of town residents and kicks off with the Endless Yard Sale, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with hours of operation roughly between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.

Official yard sales had to register with the OHW Committee in advance to receive the support of a property listing on a map and official yard sale signage. The yard sale maps will be available in local stores Thursday, July 11. A reminder to motorists traveling through the area to slow down and use caution as there will be a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic throughout the community as folks scope out deals during the Endless Yard Sale.

In addition to the Endless Yard Sale, there are a variety of events taking place throughout the Town of Orrington to celebrate its 236th birthday!

You can sponsor a rubber duck or multiple ducks for the thrilling Sedgeunkedunk Stream Duck Race to benefit the Orrington Historical Society. The race takes place Sunday, July 14 with the ducks hitting the water at 11:30 a.m. at the fishway picnic area behind Kozy Korner store. Ducks can be sponsored at the Orrington Public Library or Town Office.

The Orrington Public Library is “Grand Central Station” for Orrington Old Home Week festivities from the photography contest and 3rd annual art auction to the Library Festival with specialty vendors and huge used books sale! People can also drop off back-to-school supplies for the parent-teacher group to distribute.

Kelly Brooks, Orrington’s librarian, is the chairperson for the 2024 Orrington Old Home Week Committee. “We are a new committee taking over for a veteran group who have been amazing at building this community festival,”  Brooks explained. “We hope we crossed all the T’s dotted all the I’s at this point. The mailer is heading your way this week with the list of what’s going on. We will continue to post updates on Facebook and our website. Thank you to our corporate sponsors and the amazing committee of volunteers. I could not have done it without them.”

The community will be announcing its Citizen-of-the-Year during a community Bar-B-Que hosted by the town’s first responders on Sunday, July 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will also have a Touch-A-Truck event there too for the kids.

Orrington’s New Farmers Market at the19th Century Curran Village will be as usual on Sundays 2-6 p.m. and some of the town’s churches will be hosting community suppers and concerts.

The Fields Pond Audubon Center has planned events too and in addition to great golf, Shorty’s Pub at the Rocky Knoll Country Club will offer live music and their usual fare.

The Town of Orrington welcomes you to join us in celebrating 236 years as Penobscot County’s first established town!
