ANGOLA, Ind. — Former Marinette High School softball star Sydney Nemetz and the UW-Oshkosh Titans are headed to the NCAA Division III World Series.

The Titans met defending NCAA Division III National Champion Trine University in a three-game Super Regional Series Thursday and Friday.

After dropping game one 9-0 on Thursday and trailing game two 1-0 in the sixth inning on Friday, the Titans stormed back to win two in a row and advance to the World Series which will be played on the East Texas Baptist University campus in Marshall, Texas from May 30 June 5.

Trine entered the Super Regional having not allowed a run in three Regional games. They then notched a one-hit shutout in game one against UWO and held the Titans scoreless through the first five innings of game two.

However, the Titans got off the mat in time and came from behind to take game two 3-1 and force a decisive game three.

In the series finale, the Titans jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning and went on to win 5-2 behind a stellar pitching performance from freshman Brianna Bougie.

After being named the Most Outstanding Player in last week’s Regional Tournament, Nemetz pitched only one inning in the Super Regional.

She was tagged for five runs, three earned, and did not record an out in the second inning in Thursday’s series opener before being lifted; however, Bougie and her Titan teammates had her back on Friday and Nemetz will get another shot in Texas.

Nemetz, a junior, is a three-time First-Team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selection and has been named First-Team All-Region this season.

The Titans are in the midst of the best season in program history.

With a record of 44-5 they boast not only the highest win total in program history, but the highest win total in WIAC history.

Nemetz has been the workhorse for one of the best pitching staffs in the country. As a team, the Titans have an ERA of 1.32 while holding opposing hitters to a .209 batting average.

Nemetz holds a record of 19-3 with an ERA of 1.39 and a WHIP of 0.90. She has struck out 157 batters and walked only 32 in 140.2 innings pitched.

The NCAA Division III World Series features two four-team double-elimination brackets with the winners of each bracket facing off in a best-of-three series.

The Titans will kick things off against East Texas Baptist on Thursday. The Tigers are 42-2 on the season and were rated second in the nation in the final regular season NFCA Coaches’ Poll.

Bracket one also features Rowan University (39-8) and Case Western Reserve University (40-7).
