    2 dead after plane crash near EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh

    OSHKOSH, Wis -- Two people are dead following a plane crash Monday afternoon just south of EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.

    According to the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, the crash was first reported at around 12:15 p.m. in a farm field near Old Knapp Road and Nekimi Ave. in the Town of Nekimi.

    The crash occurred roughly two miles south of where the annual EAA AirVenture is being held and was first reported by air traffic control at the Wittman Airport tower.

    The Oshkosh Fire Department, Nekimi Fire Department and First Responders, Van Dyne Fire Department, Wisconsin State Partol and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) responded to the crash.

    First responders arrived to find the plane fully engulfed in flames. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the two occupants of the plane had died. Their names and other plane identifiers are being withheld as authorities notify the victims' families.

    The NTSB is investigating the crash.
